The Massachusetts Gaming Commission talked about a number of important dilemmas at a meeting held at boston’s john b. hynes veterans memorial convention center thursday.
Their state gambling regulator gave the nod to MGM Resorts Global’s request to wait the opening of its $800-million casino resort in Springfield to 2018 september. The cause of here is the reconstruction of this Interstate 91 viaduct, which is expected to be finished by 2018 august.
Commissioners have not been specially interested in the delay because the state would be to lose about $10 million in tax income for each month the casino doesn’t operate. But, they admitted so it wouldn’t be beneficial to the company, if MGM starts its resort at a time when key I-91 lanes are closed down as this might influence site visitors’ first impressions in a way that is negative.
Another matter that has been talked about throughout the meeting was Brockton and its application for a $650-million casino resort in Southeastern Massachusetts, or Region C as it is officially referred to thursday.
